  2.  Enter the ARCHBISHOP OF YORK and SIR MICHAEL.

  4. Archbishop    Hie, good Sir Michael, bear this seald brief
  5.     With wingd haste to the lord marshal;
  6.     This to my cousin Scroop; and all the rest
  7.     To whom they are directed. If you knew
  8.     How much they do import you would make haste.
  9.  
  10. Sir Michael    My good lord, I guess their tenor.
  11.  
  12. Archbishop    Like enough you do.
  13.     Tomorrow, good Sir Michael, is a day
  14.     Wherein the fortune of ten thousand men
  15.     Must bide the touch; for, sir, at Shrewsbury,
  16.     As I am truly given to understand,
  17.     The king with mighty and quick-raisd power
  18.     Meets with Lord Harry; and I fear, Sir Michael,
  19.     What with the sickness of Northumberland,
  20.     Whose power was in the first proportion,
  21.     And what with Owen Glendower's absence thence,
  22.     Who with them was a rated sinew too,
  23.     And comes not in, o'erruled by prophecies,
  24.     I fear the power of Percy is too weak
  25.     To wage an instant trial with the king.

  27. Sir Michael    Why, my good lord, you need not fear;
  28.     There is Douglas and Lord Mortimer.

  30. Archbishop    No, Mortimer is not there.

  32. Sir Michael    But there is Mordake, Vernon, Lord Harry Percy,
  33.     And there is my Lord of Worcester, and a head
  34.     Of gallant warriors, noble gentlemen.

  36. Archbishop    And so there is; but yet the king hath drawn
  37.     The special head of all the land together:
  38.     The Prince of Wales, Lord John of Lancaster,
  39.     The noble Westmoreland, and warlike Blunt,
  40.     And many more corrivals and dear men
  41.     Of estimation and command in arms.

  43. Sir Michael    Doubt not, my lord, they shall be well opposed.
  44.  
  45. Archbishop    I hope no less, yet needful 'tis to fear;
  46.     And to prevent the worst, Sir Michael, speed.
  47.     For if Lord Percy thrive not, ere the king
  48.     Dismiss his power he means to visit us,
  49.     For he hath heard of our confederacy,
  50.     And 'tis but wisdom to make strong against him.
  51.     Therefore make haste. I must go write again
  52.     To other friends. And so farewell, Sir Michael.
